  • Cheap Cure for Spring Fever

Spring is officially baseball season here in Atlanta. From backyard games of catch to sunny weekends at Turner Field, the city's favorite pastime is in full swing. What to do, however, when you really want to catch a game but just can't muster up the civility to fight traffic on a Friday? Take in a Georgia Tech game, of course!

The Yellow Jackets, currently ranked third in the nation, have had a stellar start to the season. After their weekend sweep, Tech sits at 32 and 5, outscoring opponents 381-144 over the last 37 games. Spectacular teamwork aside, another great perk is the $5 ticket price. Concession prices hover between $3 and $5, making it a fun and affordable option for families. While plenty of street and garage parking is available, Russ Chandler Stadium is just a short trolley ride from the Midtown MARTA station. What's more, the Stinger Shuttles, found all across the GT campus, offer free and air-conditioned rides.

With a jam-packed schedule, games are played throughout the week. For those of you stuck in the office, GT has you covered. Every home games can be live-streamed through iTunes or followed online with GameTracker. Liven up that traffic jam by tuning into 91.1FM for play-by-play coverage.

A few additional notes: Heads up for foul balls! Although they sometimes come careening into the crowd, catch one and get a free concession item. Be sure to check out the promos page for more cool giveaways and specials.

  • Girls, Guts and Glory!

    Atlanta Rollergirls: Dirty South Derby
    Saturday, March 13th
    Tickets start at $15

Originally created as a mostly for entertainment, women-only sport, Roller Derby has provided onlookers with a unique spectacle for over 85 years. Consisting of 5 skaters on a closed circuit, the packs have four laps to score as many points as possible, most of which are earned by passing - or body-blocking at high speeds - the nearest opponent. To ensure prime amusement for paying crowds, the stunts were rehearsed, resulting an intriguing, if not entirely honest, exhibition.

What began in 2004 as a sort of workweek catharsis has since become a citywide phenomenon. By day, these ladies are Atlanta's finest mothers, students, lawyers and writers - but by night, it's all girls, all guts, all glory! Acting as the founding members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association, the Atlanta Rollergirls have rejuvenated the 88-year-old sport of Roller Derby. For the first time since the sport's creation, the thrills and spills are unscripted.

Join the ladies for their first home bout this Saturday, March 13th, at the Yaarab Shrine Center on Ponce. Our Dirty South Derby girls compete in a knock-‘em-dead competition with the St. Louis ladies at 5p.m. Beginning at 7:30p.m. the Home Team Game features your Apocalypstix against The Sake Tuyas for the home turf battle!

All bouts are BYOB, and cans are suggested as no glass is allowed inside the arena. Additional drinks and concessions can be purchased, with combos starting at only $5 each.
