Wow-Worthy Weekend - Atlanta's Hotest Labor Day Happenings

Atlanta is the place to be this Labor Day weekend. No matter what you're into, there are hot happenings citywide! Can't-miss conventions include:

Dragon*Con 2011

Downtown Atlanta

Sci-Fi and Fantasy fan(atics) converge on Downtown for the 25th anniversary of Dragon*Con - the largest multi-genre, pop culture fan convention in the Universe. For four days, the coolest nerds from around the world become their favorite characters, from hair to paws, to mix, mingle, vie for best costumes and party through the night.

This year, the Con has added an inaugural Comic Book Babes Costume Contest (Sept. 3) to celebrate their silver anniversary. Of course, fan favorites including Superhero Wrestling and guest appearances on the Walk of Fame are on the agenda. 4-Day Memberships (aka. tickets) are available online or you can mix-and-match your days at the door.

For all the costumes-less, yet curious, head to Peachtree Street on Saturday morning (Sept. 3) for the famous Dragon*Con Parade. Free to the public, the 1/2 mile trek from Woodruff Park to Peachtree Street while costumes of every genre imaginable - from Leia's famed gold bikini and Stormtroopers, to the more obscure Sesame Street characters and multi-legged monsters - prance and prowl through the town.

Share your passion at the 15th Annual Black Gay Pride Weekend - one of the Southeast's largest celebrations of equality. This six-day schedule is packed with literary leaders and musical marvels, art shows and fabulous parties, as well as healthy living, fashion and faith seminars. Be sure to stop by the Black Pride Marketplace - an indoor shopping spree open all weekend long - for unique vendors offering fine art, clothing and accessories, literature and film finds, beauty products and so much more.

Sports fans, get those coolers ready for the ultimate tailgate party. The 2011 college football season kicks off as as UGA takes on Boise State in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff (Sept. 3.) Pre-game in style at the Georgia Aquarium Fan Night (Sept. 2) with live salsa and jazz music and performances by the half-time heartthrobs, the UGA and Boise State cheerleaders!

Other fabulous festivities:
Head to the Georgia Dome and kick off the much-anticipated gridiron rivalry as the Atlanta Falcons battle the Baltimore Ravens in the final match up of the NFL preseason (Sept. 1.)

The Decatur Book Fest (Sept. 2-4) - the nation's largest independent literary festival. This free, family-friendly fest is held at numerous venues around the historic Decatur Square and offers readings, chats and workshops with more than 300 authors. The Book Market and Street Fair boasts booths of books for sale and signing, as well as plenty of activities for kids, tweens and teens.

The Alliance Theatre delights your inner child with Into The Woods - the Broadway classic that interweaves long-loved bedtime stories into one charming musical. This weekend only, Dragon*Con and bedtime story enthusiasts can save 10% with  promo code DRAGONCON10 (Aug. 31-Sept. 4.) Oh, and costumes are welcome!

An unprecedented performance and arts exhibition, Elevate | ART ABOVE UNDERGROUND is a 66 day-long public art showcase. Free to all passersby, this unique collection of local culture spotlights muralists, sculptors, conceptual artists, interpretative dancers and much more!
