It's official! Staycation is actually in the Merriam Webster dictionary. We can't think of a better way to celebrate than to book a staycation and find out what all the fuss is about. Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau is offering Backyard Adventure vacation packages with reduced rates and discounted admission to the city's top attractions.

Also, now through Aug. 5, residents of Atlanta's 28 metro counties are encouraged to submit photos or videos that depict their favorite Atlanta pastimes. The week of Aug. 5, a panel of judges will select three semi-finalists from different metro Atlanta counties. The semi-finalist's video or photograph entry will be displayed online at 11Alive.com and on Atlanta & Company Monday - Friday, 11 a.m. to Noon. The week of Aug. 6, the public will be invited to vote on the winning entry at 11Alive.com.

The semi-finalist with the most online votes will have the unique opportunity to appear as a guest on WXIATV's Atlanta & Company to share how he/she ATL'd. The grand prize winner will also receive a Backyard Vacation trip package to Atlanta which includes a two-night stay at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in downtown Atlanta, four CityPass booklets for front-of-the-line access to six of the city's top attractions, and a $100 gift certificate to New York Prime in Buckhead.

Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau has partnered with local designers at Abcom, Inc. to develop and engineer an Atlanta holiday window display for Good Morning America’s annual seasonal showcase of American cities. More than 4.3 million viewers will tune in on Thursday, Dec. 4 when Mayor Shirley Franklin unveils the window on GMA. Atlanta was one of three cities chosen to create a holiday window which will be displayed in GMA’s ground level studios windows in Times Square for the remainder of the year. Todd Gurley and his design team at Abcom, Inc. developed and engineered the snow globe from a concept created by Bette Sammons with ACVB.The window showcases 12 notable Atlanta landmarks that are encompassed in a 13.5-foot-wide snow globe, integrated with movement and lighting effects, and frosted with holiday traditions, from southern grits to holiday glitz. To support the theme, large, glittery snowflakes surround the globe and 15 pounds of “real grits” simulate snow falling on the landmarks. Some of the holiday events captured in the snow globe include ice skating at Centennial Olympic Park, Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker at the Fabulous Fox Theatre, and Macy’s Pink Pig ride, an annual holiday tradition since 1953.

Show your support for Atlanta by tuning in to the morning news show from 7-9 a.m. EST next Thursday on the ABC Television Network.

ACVB Brings a Piece of Southern Hospitality to New York City
