Comprised of old sketches and
page mock-ups, ZAP!
POW! BAM! offers a unique peek into the world of America's original
superheros - who just happened to be created by young Jewish men. Come explore the
psychology behind Superman, Batman and Captain America, as well as see the

POW! BAM! The Superhero: The Golden Age of Comic Books, 1938-1950
Through May 8
Breman Jewish Heritage & Holocaust Museum
Curated by the Breman Jewish
Heritage and Holocaust Museum, ZAP! POW! BAM! debuted in Atlanta in
2004. Since then it has traveled the country, celebrating these contributions
by some of the nation's most-talented (and often overlooked) Jewish artists. In
addition to intriguing biographical info, this fascinating exhibit explores the
close parallels of the superhero's rise to fame and the U.S. involvement in
WWII. Between these pages, first-generation Jewish men reconcile their desire
to be "completely American" while generating public aware of the atrocities
abroad. Replete with vintage and collectable works, this Technicolored trip
through the Golden Age of Comics is a must-see for all ages.

POW! BAM! was created to be intriguing for adults yet
kid-friendly as well. This multi-faceted exhibit also includes costumes to
borrow, a hunk of Kryptonite and continuous loops of retro movies (with
hilariously dated special effects.) Best of all, there's a "design your own
superhero" station, where poseable figurines, how-to diagrams and tons of color
help imaginations soar. The show has been extended through May 8.
