"Party with a Purpose", "Concert with a Cause", "Fundraising Mixer"...all catchy phrases for the newest innovative programming from non-profits. What a Great Concept! It's really not new, but seen more prevalent with the ever changing social landscape of the city. True, the best mode of community service is rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty, but a change of pace is always welcomed. And with all of the "socialites" in the city, everyone enjoys an event with fun and flair, while still supporting a good cause.
Hands on Atlanta is the largest community based volunteer service organizations in the nation. They have been promoting their "Do Something Good" fund raising effort, to support ongoing programming for the organization in 2008. The culminating event is their first ever Benefit Concert! Hey, if you are going to do something, do it big! How about Grammy Award Winning Artists JOHN LEGEND AND PATTI LABELLE AS HEADLINERS!! That's right! On Sunday, November 25th, thousands will converge on Phillips Arena for an evening of great music and dancing. The show starts at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster, and proceeds will go to Hands on Atlanta so they can keep fueling great community events. As a speck in the vast volunteer pool, whether it be through my college, fraternity, job, or just friends donating their time and efforts, I can tell you it is rewarding work.
