    Bakeries and Picnic Food

I was wondering what the best bakeries are in Atlanta, and what are some good places to get food to-go for picnics? Typical bakery/picnic items are fine, but is there any place that is just exceptional?

One of my favorite topics!  Try Alon's for a ravishing selection of cheeses, baked goods and to-go items...the chocolate chip cookies are delish.  I also suggest East 48th Street Market in Dunwoody for an Italian feast (great muffalettas)  If you want to put a bit of footwork into things you can explore the vast Dekalb Farmer's Market.  They have charcuterie, bread, baked goods, cheese and wine.

I would also suggest Your Dekalb Farmer's Market.  Aside from the pastries, produce, and great wine and beer selection, they also have a cafeteria-style line of prepared dishes.  The variety is stunning and changes daily, but there are always pasta salads, cut fruit, and basic picnic staples like fried chicken.  Also, since your selections are charged by the pound, it's a thrifty option as well.
