I have been going to Buckhead Backlots for close to 15 years now and I was always very happy with the food and service throughout the years, beyond a few problems (about 4 time with in 15 years) with the wait staff forgetting to bring food out and having it go cold but being replaced with no hassle I have enjoyed Buckhead Backlots. Even when I moved to Kennesaw and was no longer living right down the street I would make the drive to Buckhead a few times a month to go and see a movie, as I could no longer see a movie at a regular theater due to being spoiled by the great service and atmosphere at Buckhead Backlots.

On hearing that they were going to renovate Buckhead Backlots I looked forward to them finally replacing the seats that had been tarring up over the years and falling apart as well as replacing the carpet that had started to get old and stained and sticky in some spots, I had high hops for the new changes.

I attended the pre-opening event for the reopening of Buckhead Backlots to find it had a new name, now “AMC Fork & Screen Buckhead”. My initial outlook was good they had completely changed the carpet, made some changes to the front lounge and added a bar at the front no longer would you have to wait to order a drink until you go inside your theater, the men’s room had been fixed up replacing a few of the broken items in the bathroom that had always been a problem before the renovation. Once I got inside my theater to sit down I was surprised to find that they changed chairs completely not just fixed and reupholstered the old ones as well as added a long needed call button so that you could order another beer or more food.

Well that’s when things started to go bad. I sat down in the new chairs to find out that you cant lean back un them unless you push real hard on your back while not rolling backwards along the floor a couple of the ladies that were sitting next to me couldn’t even get theirs to lean back as they were not able to put enough force in it, once you got your seat back it fights with you to go back into a upright position, there is a leaver on the bottom that lets you lock it back but when you are trying to eat your cant have it back as your just drop food all over yourself. Well I decided to give it a chance and maybe they will not be so bad after a few weeks of people sitting in them as they are new chairs. I was looking at the menu to find that they had raised the beer prices for a pitcher when they use to be $9.99 domestics & $12.99 premiums to $16.49 domestics & $21.49 premiums, there bottles use to be $3.29 domestics & $3.99 premiums now they are $3.89 domestics & $4.89 premiums, ok can you say greedy that just insane. They finally added liquor to menu but you cant afford it unless your living in one of the million dollar condos next door to them as you can buy a bottle of liquor for the price they are wanting you to buy one or two drinks for.

They changed the food on the menu to resemble items you might find at a few of the crap on the wall restaurants around town [Crap On The Wall Restaurant: Ruby Tuesdays, Applebee’s, Chilies… basically any kind of restaurant that puts crap on their walls] with prices that matched or were higher. The food that I tried wasn’t that bad but for the price the portion was super small unlike their portions they offered for a cheaper price under their old menu.

Well I decided to try and give them one more chance to I took my wife to go and see a movie the day they reopened a few weeks latter, well that was a disaster… We got to the theater about an hour and thirty minutes before the movie we wanted to see was to start to get our tickets and run around Buckhead before the movie started, I was told the movie we wanted to see sold out fifteen minutes previous so me and the wife picked anther movie that started twenty minutes latter then the original movie. We sat down about an hour before our movie stated and we were one of the first people in the theater, as with the pre-opening none of the ladies in the theater were able to get their seats to lean back so I had to lean my wife’s seat back for her. The waitress come and took our order so I ordered a pitcher of beer, a hamburger and fries, a water, and the wife wanted a brownie. Other people started to stroll in early as well so the waitress and waiters started taking everyone’s order, well she brought our beer our about 30 min after we ordered it, my burger was brought out about 10 min after the movie started which I was find with but it took over an hour to get a small burger (that’s just sad), my wife’s brownie never came out and we were told that there were problems in the kitchen, I don’t know about you but 3 hours to put a brownie on a plate and bring it out is kinda long if they had brought it out which they never did, they didn’t even brink the check the movie ended and ten minutes went by and still not check we had to push the call button to find out why we still never got the brownie or the check, they comped for us and gave us passes to go back and see another movie. The sad thing is that a few of the people never even got their food and were given their tickets, they were offered free passes as well but that’s still kind of sad.

I ended up having to talk with the manager before we left as I had been going to that theater for close to 15 years and never had as bad as that before I wanted to express my complete dissatisfaction with the overall renovation and changes. The manager proceeded to tell me that they were going to have to work some issues out with the menus and movie time to help fix problems and to give them a try back latter on. Well I still haven’t been able to bring my self to go back because that was such a bad experience.

AMC Fork & Screen is great. I attended the pre-opening and enjoyed the services I received. As it being a new theatr/restuarant, that is not quite true. It was formerly the AMC Buckhead Backlot, which had become a cinema and draft house venue in the mid-90s serving dinner and alcohol. They just revamped and renamed. I am glad that it has finally re-opened. It is a great place for a date. The prices for the meals are inexpensive and the seating is comfortable. The staff was very friendly. I give it two thumbs UP!!

I read at The Blissful Glutton that there is a new restaurant/theater opening July 11th in Buckhead called the AMC Fork & Screen. There will be lots of prizes and activities for the Grand opening on July 11, 12, & 13.

The location offers seat-side service in all auditoriums, a pretty good-looking menu, a full bar and lounge, as well as the usual concessions.

This seems pretty cool. I definitely want to go see what this experience is like. It seems like a pretty good date spot. Dinner and a movie at the same time. So, when someone goes you'll have to tell me what the food is like, and whether you had a good experience and would want to go again.
