Stone Mountain - Hiking up Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain Park - July 2008 - Two of us from Snellville GA and two family members visiting us from Farmington NY climbed up and down Stone Mountain.
It was a warm and hazy July morning but the view was still beautiful. If you visit the park you can ride the tram/skyride to the top of the mountain.....or hike it like we did.

Guided Walking Tours of Historic Atlanta

In The Loop mentioned that the last Twilight Walking Tour of Inman Park for the month of July takes place July 17th at 6:30 p.m. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and will show you the preserved Victorian style homes of Coca-cola magnates Asa Candler and Earnest Woodruff dating back to 1889. Don't worry if you can't make it on July 17th, the twilight tours will be offered through October, as well as day tours Sundays at 2 p.m. through November. Admission is free to Atlanta Preservation Center members, and $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Meet at the Keith-King Bed & Breakfast 889 Edgewood Avenue.

Outdoor Adevnture Club Forming!

I am starting a new Outdoor Adventure, Fitness, Travel and Social club for the Atlanta area. We'll have events starting in August including hiking, backpacking, climbing, kayaking, horse back risding, and more! Right now I'm looking for volunteers to lead events for the club. Volunteers get free membership and earn credits towards paid events like travel, cabin weekends, or events requiring outfitters.

Flicks on Fifth

Atlanta Dish recently mentioned that Flicks on Fifth, an outdoor movie event, recently began on June 11 and will show a free movie every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. until July 23, rain or shine. The nearby GLOBE restaurant is close enough to watch the films from the patio. Guests must make reservations for the GLOBE's patio and order $25 minimum of food and drink per person. (call 404-541-1487 for reservations).

The movie is on 5th between Spring Street and Techwood Drive.

June 18- Horton Hears a Who

June 25- The Bourne Ultimatum

July 9- Hairspray

July 16- Superbad

July 23- 21

Sounds like it could be fun. Has anyone been to this before? Do you know about the parking situation? Supposedly limited seating is available, and guests should bring blankets but no coolers or umbrellas. Are there vendors, or do you just visit nearby restaurants?

A Place in the city to enjoy nature

Lullwater Conservation Park is located on Emory University's campus, and is a good place to get away from city bustle. This is a place to stroll, bike, or jog beside the pond and enjoy the shade of the trees.

What is your experience in Lullwater park? Is it really a good place to relax, and how does the size of the park compare to other Atlanta parks? What have you found to be the best place to enjoy nature in the city?

Sunny Sunday Afternoon in Piedmont Park

One of my many favorite things to do in Atlanta is to run in Piedmont Park. On a sunny Sunday afternoon around 3:00 pm the park is jam packed with an eclectic mix of people: different ages, races, singles, families, young couples, old couples, new couples, babies, teenagers, runners, bikers, roller-bladers, the affluent, the poor, the middle class, the happy, the sad, the active, the bored...and I can't forget the many animals: puppies, old dogs, large dogs, small dogs, pigs, birds, squirrels.... I love running without any headphones to hear all the different sounds: music (rock, jazz, hip hop, the drum circle), laughing, crying, cheering, talking, humming, ... And the smells, there are so many different smells: the flowers, cologne, perfume, grilling, the earth, cigarettes, pipes, perspiration, ...

After running in Piedmont Park on a sunny Sunday afternoon, I feel like I can conquer the world.
