So, when I heard of a new restuarant called The Nook opening across the street from Piedmont Park, I recruited a friend to go with me to check things out.

The Nook on PIedmont Park, located in the heart of Midtown, is part Pub, part new-age southern, and just great. My friend and I decided to order the items which I am certain will be big sellers, the Bananas Foster French Toast and the Chicken and Waffles. I don't need to remind anyone that I am a Southern girl, and I take my food, especially fried food, serious.

The chicken, a boneless ***, was cooked perfectly, and the waffles was jalapeno and corn-based, which was a different take on what one would expect from all of the places that cooks either chicken and waffles or shrimp and grits (which is also on the brunch menu).

The bananas foster, is a tasty breakfast treat. It wasn't overly sweet and just a lovely presentation. There are other options for brunch, like chicken and biscuits, omelets, and bagels--enough for any taste you might have for brunch.

The Nook is also going to be quite popular for their dinner options (yes, I went back for a dinner run), particularly their take on Nachos, or rather "totchos." Think nachos with a twist--replace chips with tater tots and all the fixings one would think. They had me at tater tots; the one food as an adult I must have and tastes just like the good old days. Though I don't have pictures of that, trust me when I say that the Nacho Totchos are worthy of an appetizer, though I would just eat that alone with a fresh Coke (or other specialty cocktail) and be happy. Other signature plates include the Smoked Chicken Wings with a spicy Coca-Cola BBQ sauce, The $20 Sandwich (seeing is believing).

Last, but certainly not least, I suggest you saving some room for dessert. Remember I am from Texas, and I missed the Rodeo this year, so I had to order the Fried Twinkies. Yes, a Twinkie, battered up, friend and if that wasn't enough, laced with chocolate sauce. No one has it here, so I think it is great--kids would love it (adults too). Also on the menu is homemade Sweet Tea ice cream and a chocolate layer cake. I know I should have taken a picture of the dessert, but it disappeared as soon as it hit the table.

This is the kind of place I can go back and sit outside hoping that the fresh air counters the Totchos and Twinkies I am sure I will order.

The Nook on Piedmont Park is open for Dinner (5pm) daily and Brunch (11-3pm) on weekends with plans to open for Lunch hours.

The Nook on Piedmont Park

1144 Piedmont Ave.
