Chow Down Atlanta recently reviewed Casa Vieja on Buford Highway.

Colorful murals cover the walls giving the restaurant a bright and homey feeling. The staff is friendly and efficient. The food is authentic and tasty, as evidence of a large amount of Colombian guests, and portions are large.

Chow Down Atlanta warns that there is a large lunch-hour rush despite good service.

The blogger says that they are closed on Thursdays, but open all other days from 11am to 9pm. Call ahead to be sure.

Sounds good. I've never had authentic Colombian food besides my grandmother's cooking. I'd like to see how this restaurant does it. Has anyone been here before? If so, what did you think?

Maxim Prime Atlanta

Creative Loafing mentioned a place to get drinks with a 360 degree views of the Atlanta skyline, cool decor and servers who live up to the "Maxim" name located atop the Glenn Hotel. She did mention that the drinks are pricey, though. The Rooftop offers a selection of high-end traditional and specialty cocktails, wine, and beer and covered private cabanas.

I have to say that the pictures of this place from the website look very appealing. The restaurant is described as "Casual Classy" and the cuisine is Steakhouse and Contemporary American.

Brunch: Saturday-Sunday 8 a.m.to 3 p.m.
Lunch: Monday-Friday 11a.m. to 2 p.m.
Dinner Nightly: 5p.m. to 11 p.m.
They do accept walk-ins, but suggest you call ahead as the rooms are often reserved.

Georgia Life & Style mentions a new restaurant/lounge in Midtown Atlanta called Amore.

Amore features Mediterranean cuisine, brick-oven pizzas, desserts, notable wine list, full bar, and casual, cozy atmosphere.

"Hot Saturday Nights" feature a lineup of belly dancers, fire dance, house, techno, regatoni, salsa, and international music from live DJs. Flamenco guitarist Rouzbi and DJ Jefferson Tyler will alternate for entertainment.

They are open 7 days a week.
Lunch:11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Dinner: 5 p.m. - 12 a.m.
Late Night Tapas: 12 a.m. - 2 a.m.
Happy Hour: 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.

AMC Fork & Screen Buckhead

I read at The Blissful Glutton that there is a new restaurant/theater opening July 11th in Buckhead called the AMC Fork & Screen. There will be lots of prizes and activities for the Grand opening on July 11, 12, & 13.

The location offers seat-side service in all auditoriums, a pretty good-looking menu, a full bar and lounge, as well as the usual concessions.

This seems pretty cool. I definitely want to go see what this experience is like. It seems like a pretty good date spot. Dinner and a movie at the same time. So, when someone goes you'll have to tell me what the food is like, and whether you had a good experience and would want to go again.

Buckhead Italian Market and Bakery

The Buckhead Italian Market and Bakery was mentioned in the Atlanta Foodies blog. This casual Italian restaurant has an Italian market and bakery as well.

The reviewer gave this restaurant a 10/10 for decor and atmosphere, the quality of the dishes and bakery items, friendly service, and reasonable prices. The food is authentic, and very delicious.

Has anyone tried this bakery? Do you agree with the blogger? What were your favorite items on the menu and in the bakery?

The Chow Down Atlanta blog talked about J Christopher recently, and I thought I'd mention it too. I've only been there a couple of times so I can't say too much, but the food was good, the menu was interesting with traditional breakfast foods as well as some new things, and I'd go there again. It was pretty busy when I went, so I guess others like it too.

The reviewer says that they have been going there since 2000, and have tried everything on the menu. They recommend the skillets, and the Blueberry Crunchcakes. J Christopher is open from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. at lots of locations everyday, serving breakfast, brunch, and lunch meals. Click here for menu and locations J Christopher

I was wondering what the best bakeries are in Atlanta, and what are some good places to get food to-go for picnics? Typical bakery/picnic items are fine, but is there any place that is just exceptional?

Another great spot in the Castleberry Hill area is Elliot Street Pub. They have fantastic and unique sandwiches, all of which are fresh and made to order. It's also a great place to get a feel for the neighborhood; the brothers who run the pub are very friendly and total community players. And... it's a pub. Great. The only thing to keep in mind is that they take a midday siesta, which makes me like the place even more.
